POSITION SUMMARY
The PSE Lab Engineer supports manufacturing and production operations through advanced material, solder joint, and failure analysis. This role applies hands-on laboratory and analytical expertise to evaluate product quality, investigate failures, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings experience from prior roles such as Failure Analysis Engineer, Quality Engineer, Materials Engineer, Process Engineer, or Reliability/Test Engineer, with direct exposure to analytical methods and electronic assembly standards. Strong technical documentation skills and effective cross-functional communication are essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct detailed inspection and analysis of solder joints and electronic assemblies to evaluate workmanship, reliability, and welding quality.
• Perform material composition and elemental analysis and generate accurate, data-driven reports.
• Execute failure analysis investigations using industry-standard methodologies to identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical laboratory equipment, including but not limited to:
o Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
o Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
o X-ray inspection systems
o Optical Microscopy (OM)
• Support product qualification activities, including Dye & Pry, cross-sectioning, and reliability evaluations.
• Prepare and present clear, professional technical reports summarizing results, conclusions, and improvement recommendations.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues and drive process improvements.
• Create, update, and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and laboratory procedures.
• Ensure analytical work and reporting comply with IPC standards, Wistron procedures, and ISO/TS quality system requirements.
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related engineering/science discipline.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 1+ year of relevant experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or engineering environment performing:
o Product or failure analysis
o Qualification testing (Dye & Pry, cross-section, etc.)
o Analytical instrument usage and evaluation
TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Hands-on experience with SEM, EDS, X-ray, and Optical Microscopy.
• Working knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, DOE support).
• Familiarity with electronic assembly processes and workmanship standards.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards in English.
• Proficiency in writing clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
• IPC-A-610 – Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies (preferred but not required).
