Material Handler

Position Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, processing, documentation, and shipment of materials within a warehouse or distribution environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining inventory accuracy and ensuring the timely movement of products. The ideal candidate will have experience handling LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight shipments, preparing and verifying Bills of Lading (BOLs), managing PRO numbers, and processing small package shipments through multiple carriers. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
  • Prepare, process, and track outbound shipments, including LTL freight and small package deliveries.
  • Create, review, and maintain Bills of Lading (BOLs) and other shipping documents for accuracy.
  • Track and manage PRO numbers to ensure proper shipment status and documentation.
  • Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to resolve shipping and receiving issues.
  • Load, unload, move, and stage materials throughout the warehouse.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and perform cycle counts as required.
  • Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently, including forklifts.
  • Ensure shipments are packaged, labeled, and documented according to company and carrier requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Assist with other warehouse and logistics duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, shipping, receiving, or distribution environment.
  • Experience with LTL freight shipping, Bills of Lading (BOLs), PRO numbers, and small package shipping systems.
  • Prior forklift operating experience required; forklift certification preferred.
  • Ability to accurately process shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using warehouse management or inventory systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with multiple shipping carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and LTL freight providers.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and warehouse best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
