Material Handler
Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, processing, documentation, and shipment of materials within a warehouse or distribution environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining inventory accuracy and ensuring the timely movement of products. The ideal candidate will have experience handling LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight shipments, preparing and verifying Bills of Lading (BOLs), managing PRO numbers, and processing small package shipments through multiple carriers. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
- Prepare, process, and track outbound shipments, including LTL freight and small package deliveries.
- Create, review, and maintain Bills of Lading (BOLs) and other shipping documents for accuracy.
- Track and manage PRO numbers to ensure proper shipment status and documentation.
- Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to resolve shipping and receiving issues.
- Load, unload, move, and stage materials throughout the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and perform cycle counts as required.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently, including forklifts.
- Ensure shipments are packaged, labeled, and documented according to company and carrier requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Assist with other warehouse and logistics duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, shipping, receiving, or distribution environment.
- Experience with LTL freight shipping, Bills of Lading (BOLs), PRO numbers, and small package shipping systems.
- Prior forklift operating experience required; forklift certification preferred.
- Ability to accurately process shipping and receiving documentation.
- Basic computer skills and experience using warehouse management or inventory systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with multiple shipping carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and LTL freight providers.
- Knowledge of inventory control and warehouse best practices.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
